| Abstract | This article summarizes the pathophysiological mechanisms of pain: tansduction, transmission, modulation, perception and sensitization. A basic understanding of the pathophysiology of pain is essential for the understand of the mechanism of drug action. The mechanism of action of commonly used pain medication is also discussed as well as different methods of pain assessment. | |
