Abstract     Syrichtus cribrellum is one of the rarest butterfly species in Europe. Apart from Romania and recently Bulgaria, it was known only from a single site in the Republic of Macedonia. During field surveys in June 2008, the species was observed near the original site of its discovery on Suva Planina and at a new site on Mt Vodno. The species habitat is characterised by rich-flowering calcareous grasslands with patches of barren stony ground. The most common cinquefoil in the habitat was Potentilla cf. hirta, which could be a potentiallarval foodplant of the species in Macedonia. Owing to the highly fragmented distribution, small populations and lack of knowledge on the species autecology, it should be considered at least vulnerable in the countries at the western edge of its distribution.
