Abstract | Acute postoperative pain is an expected and typical symptom, resulting from surgical incision and tissue damage. Inadequate postoperative treatment of pain may increase the morbidity and mortality of the patients as well as decrease of quality of life postoperatively what is unacceptable from ethical point of view. There is growing evidence that the efficacy of analgesic agents differs among surgical procedures. Evidence also shows that current postoperative pain management is not optimal. Therefore, postoperative pain management protocols should be procedure-specific. Patient preparation should include pain assessment and pain management. | |
