Abstract     Periodontal disease is characterized by the loss of clinical attachment. In multi-rooted teeth, it can affect the furcation area, which has an adverse influence on the long-term prognosis of the tooth. Because of the anatomical and morphological features of molar teeth, as well as their physical inaccessibility for hygiene procedures, the treatment of molar teeth with advanced furcation involvement by conventional surgical and non-surgical techniques does not provide the desired results. Therefore, various regenerative and resective procedures have been introduced, including root hemisection, separation, resection or amputation. This article describes the technique of root amputation. A case report is presented.
