Abstract		In a typical health care institution, a couple of information systems co-exist and a plethora of diagnostic devices are used. As a rule, the larger devices have been centrally connected, but the smaller ones remain isolated islands of the system. The article describes an efficient solution for connecting these devices into a centralised system by means of a universal communication gateway.
