Abstract     Treadmill is a rehabilitation device that enables gait training in direction straight ahead. Our aim was to expand the use of a treadmill to achieve turning whilst walking. We developed a mechanism which is capable of rotating around vertical axis (yaw rotation). When treadmill is attached to this device we obtain rotating treadmill. In this preliminary study we compared overground and treadmill walking (straight and turning) of one healthy, young volunteer. Data was collected using Xsens inertial sensors. Results indicate that walking on rotating treadmill influences the user to actively accommodate his movement in such a way that appropriately follows the treadmill, thus implementing turning mechanisms that to predominant degree resemble those observed in overground walking.
