Abstract     The bonding of Chromalink (Lek/Ivoclar/Vivadent) to the cast activated surface of the AUROPAL SE ZC alloy is unsatisfactory (delta m less th. 1 MPa) because the alloy contains 92 cent of precious metals that do not oxidize. The strong bond obtained on oxidized aluminium (delta m=52 MPa) confirms that Chromalink binds with oxides. Sixty test samples were prepared in two series using different bonding techniques (Figure 1 g and h). Tensile strength was measured with a ZWICK 1474 computer-guided testing device. The results are presented in Table 1. Figure 4 shows the break layers of the bonding system. The main function of the bonding material placed between the metal and the opaque resin is to fill the potential gap and improve the anchorage of the resin to the appropriately shaped metal construction.
