Abstract     This presentation will discuss the role of i. v. urography, retrograde and anterograde pyelography (classic X-ray method) in detecting and excluding renal tumors in patients with haematuria and in patients suspected to have tumors of the excretory pathway or renal parenchyma. Although US should replace i. v. urography as the fist renal imaging method in detecting renal tumors, i. v. urography retains its important role. I. v. urography has the abilily to provide a rapid overview of the whole urinary tract anatomy and function; to demonstrate the parenchyma and detailed anatomy of the pelvicalyceal, ureter, bladder and urethra. Therefore, together with retrograde (or anterograde) pyelography, i. v. urography has a fundamental role in: a) detection of tumors of the renal collecting system, pelvis, ureter and also bladder and urethra, b) detection of renal tumors (of the parenchyma and excretory pathway) in patients with haematuria, especially because of its ability to differentiate (exclude) the other causes of haematuria.
