Abstract     Diet therapy in the treatment of gastrointestinal disease has become better defined. Because maldigestion or malabsorbtion frequently occur, undernutrition is a common complication. Bland diets in dietotherapy of peptic ulcer disease are no longer used, and may actually worsen the disease. To prevent the postprandial osmotic diarrhea associated with dumping syndrome a diet as low as possible in simple sugars and salt is used. Eating should be divided into six smaller meals and should include less carbohydrate beverages.
