Abstract     mamotidine is a H2-receptor inhibitor with specific action. The purpose of the presented multicenter study was to examine the efficacy of famotidine in the treatment of ulcer disease. One hundred and fifty-two patients concluded the study. Out of the total number of patients, cure was achieved in 83 percent (25/30) of patients with gastric ulcer and in 87 percent (106/122) of patients with duodenal ulcer. After a 6-week therapy, complete disappearance of symptoms was observed in 81 percent of patients; in 12 percent of patients some symptoms were still present, and in 7 percent of patients symptoms persisted butwere assessed as being less severe. Out of 20 patients with unhealed ulcer, 11 continued treatment with Ulfamid. Side effects were mild and transient and did not require discontinuation of treatment.
