Abstract     During the implantation of the hip stem, air and blood can mix with cement forming in this way cement filling defects. Numerical modelling, based on the finite element method is applied in order to simulate air and blood voids. Significant changes in the interface stresses close to the defects are seen when compared to the stresses in a case of sound cement mantle.
