Abstract		The properties of cytochrome P-450 induced in the rat small intestine by estradiol were investigated. The interaction of substrates with intestinal microsomal cytochrome P-450 was compared to that of the enzyme induced in the rat liver by phenobarbital. The results obtained indicate that in the rat small intestine estradiol increases the concentration of the enzyme which differs from the liver type cytochrome P-450 but resembles the liver type cytochrome P-448. The difference spectroscopy data were supported by a parallel study on the action of specific inhibitors of the hydroxylation reaction.
