Abstract     Glukozamin je amino sladkor, ki se uporablja pri osteoartritisu za lajšanje simptomov ter upočasnitev napredovanje bolezni. V Sloveniji je na voljo kot zdravilo brez recepta in prehransko dopolnilo. V in vitro raziskavah ter v študijah na živalih so dokazali ugoden učinek glukozamina pri osteoartritisu, medtem ko je smiselnost njegove uporabe pri ljudeh vprašljiva. Glukozaminijev sulfat se v kliničnih raziskavah izkazuje uspešnejši kot klorid, a je tudi v primeru sulfata izboljšanje osteoartritisa v primerjavi s placebom majhno. Uporaba glukozamina je varna, glede na dosedanje rezultate pa njegova uporaba ni smiselna pri vseh bolnikih z osteoartritisom.Glucosamine is an amino sugar used in patients with osteoarthritis to relieve the symptoms and delay the progression of the disease. In Slovenia it is available as food supplement or nonprescription medicine. In in vitro studies and studies in animal models the effects of glucosamine in osteoarthritis were proven. On the other hand, its use in patients remains questionable. In clinical studies with osteoarthritis patients glucosamine sulphate seems more effective than hydrochloride. However, also the effect of sulphate was low compared to placebo. Regarding the so far existing data the use of the glucosamine is safe, but is not reasonable for all patients with osteoarthritis.
