Abstract     Our intention was to show a correlation between the psychological state of an individual and reactivity of his cardiovascular system to mental stress. At the beginning of our work we tested 229 healthy students, volunteers with a specific psychological questionnaire elaborated for this purpose. Afterwards, the group of 72 individuals (from 19 to 22 years, average age 20.1 years) among the inquired persons was, according to the results of the questionnaire, divided into two groups: one with type A behavior and another with type B behavior. They were then stressed with a mental (mathematical) test. Before the stress and after it, pulses and blood pressures of the inquired individuals were measured. Values of the parameters measured as well as additional data obtained from inquiry about family history of arterial hypertension were compared. In the group with type B behavior, we noted a significantly (p less th. 0.05) higher pre-strain pulse and blood pressure. After the mental strain, the inquired individuals from the group with type B behavior had a higher pulse than those from the group with the type A whose individuals had higher blood pressures as well as higher absolute and relative increases. There was no correlation found between behavior type and positive family history of arterial hypertension.
