Abstract     Some of the recent developments in the theory of phase transitions in the ferroelectric crystals, ferroelectric incommensurate systems and ferroelectric liquid crystals are reviewed. For KH2PO4-type ferroelectrics the expresssions for the static and dynamic properties derived by four-cluster anlysis are compared with those found from a mean field treatment of the Ising model. The dielectric susceptibility investigation of a sequence of paraelectric-incommensurate-commensurate phase transitions in Rb2ZnCl4 is presented and a dialectric method for determination of the soliton density and of the intersoliton interaction is described. The model of ferroelectric smectic C* liquid crystals is reviewed, which includes the bilinear as well as biquadratic coupling between the tilt of molecules from the normal to smectic layers and the spontaneous polarization and which is consistent with the observed anomalous properties of the system.
