Abstract     The immune response in normal conditions is well regulated. Different molecules, like cytokines and antiidiotypic antibodies are natural regulators of immune system activity. In disease, or if congenital disorders and defects exist, the function of immune system can be seriously hampered. In these cases modulation of its activity with natural or articially designed immunomodulators in sensible. In the present publication some of natural and manmade immunomodulators available today are discused, with special emphasis on synthetically derived apyrogenic derivatives of muramyldipeptide.
