Abstract     This paper reports the results of a pilot study on use of DRGs in Slovenia. The study has been carried out in 5 general hospitals, with 8 selected diagnoses. For each diagnosis sample of 50 people was selected and a sruvey with a questionnaire was completed by administrative personnel. The response rate was 84 percent. The results showed that the longest length of stay (LOS) was established out for acute myocardial infarction (AMI): 17.08 days, the shortes LOS was for chronic disease of tonsils and adenoids: 2.27 dayes). The average costs for the AMI were approximately 4133 DEM and for the latter 769 DEM. 2 The correlation between LOS and costs is highly significant, with a correlation coefficient of 0.63 (2p=0.001).
