Abstract		Sigle fibre EMG with axonal microstimulation was used to examine neuromuscular transmission in normal and paralysed limbs of 24 hemiparetic patients with a recent ischemic stroke. The studies were mildly but definitely abnormal on the affected side in 18 patients, suggesting some degree of transsynaptic lower motor neuron dysfunction during early stages of upper motor neuron paralysis.
