Abstract     Background. It is well known that pulsating magnetic fields of low intensity (PMFLI) have a beneficial effect on the healing of bone fractures and skin lesions as well as on the regeneration of muscle tissue, but the physiologic or morphologic backgrounds of their action have not been fully clarified yet. A most plasesible explanation is, however, that in long-term exposure to PMFLI the density of bone substance and callus is changed, and revascularization in the injured area accelerated. Since these often present a problem in posttraumatic rehabilitation, we decided to make a clinical study with our patients. Patients and methods. 171 patients with posttraumatic SS were enrolled in our two-year prospective randomized study and divided into two groups, a test and a control group. The test group included 86 patients (42 women, average age 49, age span from 21 to 80 years). The control group included 85 patients (43 women, average age 44, age span from 14 to 77 years). For the patients of both groups kinesitherapy and hydrokinesitherapy were prescribed, while the patients of the test group were also exposed to PMFLI (the Bioimpuls-Magnetotron 90 W device for hospital use by Swiss Elecsystem) for 30 minutes daily, 5 days a week for a period of 3-8 weeks. Results. In the group exposed to PMFLI for 3-8 weeks, the density of bone substance and bone callus improved in 32 patients (in the control group, the condition after therapy remained unchanged), the circumference of affected areas decreased for about 22 mm or 9 percent (in the control group for 12.5 mm or 5 percent), the average evaluation of pain dropped from 3.9 to 1.1 (in the control group from 3.6 to 1.9), the mobility improved in a total of 81 patients (in the control group in 69 patients), muscular strenght improved in 56 patients (in the control group the condition was good in 15 patients - in the rest of them it improved partly). Summary     Izhodišča. Poznan je vpliv pulzirajočih magnetnih polj nizkih frekvenc in majhnih jakosti na celjenje kostnih prelomov in kožnih ran ter na regeneracijo mišičnega tkiva in nevrocirkulatornega sistema (31), manj je pojasnjeno fiziološko in morfološko ozadje njihovega delovanja. Vendar je mogoče z veliko verjetnostjo sklepati, da se ob dolgotrajni izpostavljenosti pulzirajočim magnetnim poljem nizkih frekvenc in majhnih jakosti spremeni gostota kostnine in gostota kotnega kalusa ter pospeši revaskularizacijo v poškodovanem predelu. Ker nam v popoškodbeni rehabilitaciji to dvoje velikokrat povzroča nemalo težav, smo se odločili za klinično raziskavo na bolnikih. Bolniki in metode dela. V prospektivno randomizirano dveletno raziskavo smo vključili 171 bolnikov s SS po poškodbi, razdeljenih v testno in kontrolno skupino. V prvi, testni skupini je bilo 86 bolnikov (42 žensk, povprečna starost 49 let, razpon od 21 do 80 let). V drugi, kontrolni skupini je bilo 85 bolnikov (43 žensk, povprečna starost 44 let, razpon od 14 do 77 let). Bolnikom prve in druge skupine smo predpisali kinezioterapijo in hidrokinezioterapijo, ob tem pa so bili bolniki prve skupine izpostavljeni še pulzirajočim magnetnim poljem nizkih frekvenc in majhnih jakosti (aparat Bioimpuls-Magnetotron 90 W za hospitalno uporabo švicarskega Elecsystema) 30 minut dnevno, 5 dni v tednu, od tri do osem tednov. Zaključki. V skupini, ki je bila 3 do 8 tednov izpostavljena pulzirajočim magnetnim poljem nizkih frekvenc in malih jakosti, se je gostota kostnine in kostnih kalusov izboljšala pri skupno 32 bolnikih (v II. skupini je ostalo stanje po terapiji nespremenjeno), obseg prizadetih predelov se je zmanjšal za cca. 22 mm ali 9 odst. (v II. skupini za 12,5 mm ali 5 odst.), povprečna ocena bolečine je padla iz 3,9 na 1,1 (v II. skupini iz 3,6 na 1,9), gibljivost se je izboljšala pri skupno 81 bolnikih (v II. skupini pri 69 bolnikih), groba moč mišic se je popravila pri skupno 56 bolnikih (v II.(krajš.)
