Abstract     Uvod: Ultrafine delce (delci z aerodinamičnim premerom do 0,1 mikro m) v ozračju je potrebno proučevati z inženirskega in javnozdravstvenega vidika, saj delci različnih velikosti, kot eno izmed najbolj pogostih onesnaževal v ozračju predstavljajo tveganje za zdravje ljudi, najpogosteje povezano z boleznimi dihal ter srca in ožilja. Vrednosti ultrafinih delcev v ozračju niso spremljane rutinsko, saj metoda merjenja teh v Evropski uniji ni zakonsko določena, niti ni določene mejne vrednosti. Namen: Oceniti povezanost med onesnaženostjo ozračja z ultrafinimi delci in dnevnim številom smrti zaradi bolezni dihal pri prebivalcih Mestne občine Ljubljana. Metode dela: S pomočjo sistematčnega pregleda objav je bil opravljen pregled del na tem področju. Za oceno povezanosti med ultrafinimi delci v ozračju in dnevnim številom smrti zaradi bolezni dihal je bila uporabljena ekološka raziskava časovnih trendov s Poisson-ovo regresijo. Rezultati: Vpliv ultrafinih delcev na zdravje se je pričel pogosteje raziskovati okrog leta 2000, najpogosteje z epidemiološkimi raziskavami. Istočasno z meritvami ultrafinih delcev so se pogosto izvajale meritve delcev ostalih velikosti (PM10, PM2,5) in plinastih onesnaževal (NO2, CO, O3, NO, NOx, SO2, CO2). Najvišje dnevne povprečne koncentracije ultrafinih delcev v letih 2012 in 2013 so bile izmerjene v drugi polovici novembra in v decembru. Dnevna povprečna koncentracija ultrafinih delcev velikosti 0,05 mikro m - 0,07 mikro m je statistično povezana z dnevnim številom smrti zaradi bolezni dihal (p = 0,034) v Mestni občini Ljubljana. Razprava in sklep: Ultrafini delci velikosti 0,05 mikro m - 0,07 mikro m so statistično značilno povezani z dnevnim številom smrti zaradi bolezni dihal v Mestni občini Ljubljana. To potrjuje potrebo po nadaljnem raziskovanju te problematike z inženirskega in javnozdravstvenega vidika.Introduction: Assessment of ultrafine particles as outdoor air pollutants (particles with aerodynamic parameter 0.1 %m or less), should be investigated from engineering and public health view, being one of the most represented air pollutants significant as health hazard and mostly associated to respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. Measurements of ultrafine particles are not included in air quality monitoring, as in European Union the measurements are not regulatory prescribed and as such the limit values are not defined. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the association between ultrafine particles air pollution and daily number of deaths associated to respiratory diseases in population of municipality of Ljubljana. Methods: The literature review was made systematically. In order to assess the association between ultrafine particles as air pollutants and daily number of deaths because of respiratory diseases, ecological study of time trends with Poisson regression method was used. Results: Health effects of ultrafine particles were firstly investigated around the year 2000 in epidemiological studies. Simultaneously with ultrafine particles measurements of particulate matter (PM10, PM2.5) and gaseous pollutants (NO2, CO, O3, NO, NOx, SO2, CO2) had been measured. The highest daily average concentrations of ultrafine particles in the years 2012 and 2013 were assessed in the second half of November and in December. Daily average concentration of ultrafine particles in the range 0.05 micro m - 0.07 micro m was statistically associated with daily number of deaths because of respiratory diseases in municipality of Ljubljana. Discussion and Conclusion: UFP in the range 0.05 - 0.07 micro m is statistically significantly associated with daily number of deaths because of respiratory diseases in municipality of Ljubljana. This supports the need of future research in this field from an engineering and public health view.
