Abstract     Approximately one tenth of Slovenian primary school pupils have some chronic health disorder. The children are having difficulties in everyday life, their degree being related to the nature of the disorder. One third of the affected children is jeopardised by serious phychosocial disturbances. It is, therefore, important for the physician to focus on school, family, leisuretime and peer-group factors that could worsen child's phychophysical performance. Timely intervention and/or cooperation with other experts can prevent or diminsh secondary disturbances, which can themselves worsen child's health. About 8,000 children with chronic disorders would probably need such care.
