Abstract     Well-being and health of pupils are influenced by school, particularly if it is excessively demanding. School duties are a daily obligation for at least eight years. The present study evaluated health status of 1531 3rd, 5th and 7th class pupils from 21 selected primary schools in Slovenia. The health status was assessed by a questionnaire, filled-in by pupils' school doctors and by parents. The results show that 11 percent of pupils have a chronic disorder, on average 12.7 percent are injured once a year, and the most frequent disorders are respiratory illnesses-43.2 percent. Functional health disorders are more common in higher classes-11.9 percent. 44.4 percent parents of 7th class pupils belive their children are overburdened, and describe sympotms like crying (on average in 2.7 percent, most often in 3rd class pupils) and distress (on average in 5.6 percent, most often in 7th class pupils).
