Abstract     Medicine and art, or even better, medical art and the art of beauty are human activities that have been accompanying man from prehistoric era. Both arts have a common source, the nature of the soul. The doctor, who wants to complete his mission "lege artis", has to be a strog personality and poses several natural gifts, capabilities and virtues. He has to be in absolute control of himself, emotinally balanced, truthful, honest to himself and to the others, patient and unpretentious. All those qualities make a true doctor. Besides, he should have the talent of logical thinking, analysis and synthesis, good memory, good perception and judgement, perseverance and determination. The qualities described also create a fertile ground where multiple flowers of art could blossom. Both, the art of healing and the art of beauty, have the common source - the soul, or poetically, the heart. A doctor who knows how to observe and listen to his patient and to his problems, who thinks about life and death and looks into himself and observes the life around him will be critical. He will develop his own views and personal relation to everything as well as personal feelings that he will try to express in the form of art. Therefore, we should not be surprised at the fact that there are so many artists among doctors.
