Abstract     Dr. Miroslav Čačković Vrhovinski (Zagreb, 1865-1930), head the Department of Surgery at the Sisters of mercy Hospital in Zagreb, was one of the founders of the Medical School in Zagreb and its first dean, president of the Croatian Medical Society and for many years editor-in-chief of the journal Liječnički vjesnik (Medical news). He specilized in surgery, especially in the field of abdominal surgery, and accomplished a pioneer work in neurosurgery and roentgenology. In 1912, he was nominated honorary fellow of the Slovenian Medical Society. He was also president of the Education Association, University Extension and Central Academic Canteen and one of the founders of the Society and the manual of the first aid. Besides, he was engaged in letters, writing under a pen-name of Ladislav Ladanjski in Vienac (Wreath), Prosvjeta (Englightenment), Liječnički vjesnik and other periodicals. He published two collections entitled Crtre i slike (Sketches and Pictures, 1893) and Iz liječnikove duše (From the Doctor's Soul, 1924). These novelettes are characterized by sentimentality and warm lyricism, full of understanding for human pain and suffering.
