Abstract		In the introduction we get acquainted with Dr. Ivan Pintar, the nestor of Slovene medical historians. During the years 1934-1963 he worked as a gynecologist and a part time lecturer in medical history at the Medical Faculty in Ljubljana. During 30 years of his endeavors he did a pioneer work in medical history research in Slovenia. For many years he was the editor of "Bulletin of Medical Chamber", chairman of The Slovene Medical Society and founder of the Section for medical history. He wrote our first textbook for medical history and published many articles on our prominent doctors and their work in different technical journals, Medical Encyclopedia, Encyclopedia Yugoslavica, Slovene Biographic Lexicon and other books. He paved the way for the new generation of medical historians in Slovenia.
