Abstract		The discussion tries to evaluate the role of prof. Lujo Thaller in introducing the lectures on the history of medicine at the Medical faculty of the University of Zagreb. The period from the first lecture in history of medicine at this faculty (1927) to the year 1945/46, when the constituency has been dismissed for the second time, is well documented. Attention is paid to the views on the importance of such lectures to the students of medicine, lecture programs, as well as initiatives for the foundation of the Institute of Medical History. In the words of contemporary terminology. Thaller's concept of history of medicine included general historical, sociological, cultural, psychological, anthropological, as well as, epistemological and bioethical aspects.
