Abstract     The Department of Forensic and Social Psychiatry (DFSP) of the University Psychiatric Hospital in Ljubljana, Slovenia is an open institution which is organised as a therapeutic community and has a psychotherapeutic and rehabilitative orientation. The Department offers treatment for psychotic offenders, some prisoners and people with socially accentuated psychiatric disorders. The average stay in the forensic ward is slightly longer than in other psychiatric facilities in Slovenia (62 days v. 55 days). This paper describes the development of the TC ward over the past twenty-seven years and it's current functioning. We present some preliminary figures on treatment episodes and re-admissions during 1992 and 1993.
