Abstract		A remarkable reduction in dental caries has been documented among children and adolescents in Slovenia over the past years. The average number of DMF teeth in 12-year-olds has dropped to 2.6, while the proportion of caries-free six- and 12-year-olds has increased to 30 per cent. According to these results the national goals for oral health of children and adolescents defined for the year 2000 have already been attained and surpassed. We attribute our success to consistent, large-scale implementation of preventive measures, dental health education, improved oral hygiene habits and preventive fissure sealing.
