Abstract | The paper presents the clinical manifestations of 18 consecutive patients diagnosed with solitary lymphocytoma in the years 1986 to 1988, which represents, 11.1 percent of all registered patients with Lyme borreliosis. There were nine female and nine male patients, aged from 5 to 72 years. Nine out of ten patients with lymphocytoma on the ear lobe were children. All eight patients with lymphocytoma on the breast were older than 15. Fifteen patients reported a tick bite; in 12 patients the tick bite was in the immediate vicinity of the later lymphocytoma. There was an average time interval of 3.5 weeks from the tick bite to the appearance of lymphocytoma and from 10 days to 12 months from the onset of the disease to the establishment of the correct diagnosis. Two thirds of the patients complained of localized symptoms, seven out of 18 patients displayed constitutional symptoms (predominantely in the group with lymphocytoma on the breast). In ten patients typical erythema migrans was reported, while in four patients other manifestations of Lyme borreliosis were found. The borrelial etiology was confirmed by serologic tests (in 14 patients) and/or with the presence of erythema migrans. | |
