Abstract     Findings in 848 patients with erythema migrans, registered in Slovenia in the period from 1985 to 1988 are presented. There were 61 percent females and 39 percent males aged form 5 months to 83 years (on average 37.7 years); 13 percent were children younger than 15. 73 percent of patients quoted a tick bite, 10 percent an insect bite; 17 percent didn't remember any bite. Time interval from a tick bite to the appearance of skin changes was 1 day to 4 months (median value 12 days) and from the beginning of erythema migrans to registration 2 days to 1 year (median value 30 days). Half of the patients were registered in June, July and August. 60 percent of patients had erythema migrans on lower extremities. The diameter of skin lesions differed from a few centimetres to larger than 1 meter. In 74 percent of patients skin lesions were accompanied by local (52 percent) and/or systemic symptom (47 percent). 9,1 percent of patient had more then one skin lesion (from 2 to 32). At the time of registration 217 out of 675 patients (31 percent) had positive antibodies against Borrelia burdorferi.
