Abstract		Background. Intraoral carcinomas are tumors with a rapidly increasing incidence rate. At present, they can only be treated operatively or by radiotherapy. Large tumors are treated exclusively by extensive excision, frequently followed by radiotherapy. Extensive excision results in a large defect in the oral cavity, which requires replacement by adequate tissue. The oral cavity does not contain a sufficient amount of suitable tissue, therefore, it must be obtained elsewhere. One of many choices is myocutaneous flap from the pectoralis major muscle. Methods and results. The present paper describes the course of treatment of nine patients in whom this method was applied. Other possibilities are also stated and data from literature given. Conclusion. The method of reconstruction using the pectoralis major muscle is a simple method bringing satisfactory therapeutic results.
Summary		Izhodišče. Intraoralni karcinomi so tumorji, katerih število se hitro povečuje. Trenutno jih lahko pozdravimo le z operacijo ali obsevanjem. Velike tumorje lahko pozdravimo edino z obsežno operacijo, ki ji pogosto sledi še obsevanje. Po obsežni operaciji nastane v ustni votlini velika okvara, ki jo moramo nadomestiti z ustreznim tkivom. V ustni votlini ni dovolj ustreznega tkiva, zato ga moramo dobiti drugje. Ena od številnih možnosti je uporaba kožno-mišičnega režnja velike prsne mišice. Metode in rezultati. Opisan je potek zdravljenja devetih bolnikov, pri katerih smo uporabili to metodo. Omenjene so tudi druge možnosti in podani podatki iz literature. Zaključek. Sama metoda rekonstrukcije z veliko prsno mišico je enostavna, uspeh pa je zadovoljiv.
