Abstract		The advantages of bimaxillary with monomaxillary devices are presented, and a device of this type is described. it consists of an active upper appliance attached to a mandibular stabilization splint. The device was developed by the author for use in patients with distal occlusion, in whom a balanced jaw relationship is achieved by a forward shift of the mandible. Several modifications of the stabilization splint for the lower jaw are presented. Three case reports illustrate the use of the appliance for stimulating the development and growth of the mandible, in the treatment of disocclusion between the upper and lower dental arches, and for maintaining a stable jaw relationship durign retention therapy.
