Abstract     A cross-sectional study was carried out on a sample of 101 eightyer-olds to evaluate the reliability of numerical assessment of malocclusion based on intraoral measurement of 10 morphological signs. Comparison of the results with measurements of the same parameters made in study models revealed no significant differences for any of the morphological signs studied. For each method the relative significance of each sign was determined by step-by-step multiple regression analysis. The same five signs, i.e. open bite, crossbite, overjet, incisor crowding and axial inclination of teeth, in the stated order, were found to carry the greatest significance in both methods. These five morphological signs accounted for 93
