Abstract     Significant hypertension in childhood is predominantly secondary in origin and renal disease is the commonest cause. Adequate diagnosis and treatment is now available with modern investigative and therapeutic techniques. There is, however, still a need to recognise that hypertension can and does occur in children and that blood pressure measurement is important.
