Abstract     This paper is to demonstrate the use and the findings of sonography in children with urinary tract infection, pointing out the possibilities and borders in the application of ultrasound in pediatric nephrourology. In spite of prenatal diagnoses, in many cases urinary tract malformations, especially vesicouretral reflux, are still detected only after urinary tract infection. Ultrasound might give some functional information, by Lasix sonography or color Doppler sonography. In sonographic investigation we should always stress the necessity for an adequate hydration, proper transducers and good resoluting devices as well as adequate knowledge and training of the examiner in pediatric question. Thus ultrasound will not waste time but actually improve the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of children suffering from urinary tract infections.
