Abstract     Tracheobronchial rupture (TBR) is after blunt thoracic trauma uncommon injury. In the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), in the past two years, at about 2 percent of all patients with blunt thoracic trauma, bronchial rupture was diagnosed. Diagnosis was made bronchoscopically. Indication for bronchoscopy is persistent pneumothorax despite adequate chest tube drainage, especially in mechanically ventilated patients. Diagnostical bronchoscopy should be performed only by well trained bronchoscopists. Successfull treatment depends on early diagnosis. The treatment of tracheobronchial ruptures must be performed surgically. In the ICU in Maribor, in the years 1993 and 1994, 94 patients after blunt thoracic trauma were treated, In two cases (2.1 percent), bronchial rupture has been diagnosed.
