Abstract     It is generally supposed that the constant increasement of traffic in the recent years and consequently the enormous rise of the consumption of petrol is the cause of an inadmissible increase of air pollution with innumerable dangerous pollutants, especially at retail petrol pumps as well as in their adjacent areas. That is the reason why environmental measurements of emissions and imissions of certain exhaust fumes vapours and aerosols at and in the immediate vicinity of nine retail petrol pumps in the Goriška valley have been done recently. The results obtained from measurements of emisssions and immissions of some pollutants concentrations are far from being consolatory. On the contrary, they reveal great concentrations of some extremely harmful fumes such as benzene and lead. Such results induce or better impel us to adopt the thesis that we must take it us un imperative to introduce new planning and change site plans petrol stations will be banned from serried urban centres. It will be necessary to examine the thesis with the corresponding perspective epidemiological study about the potential negative environmental impacts of measured pollutants on the state of mind and health of people exposed to high levels of exhaust fumes.
