| Abstract | The definition of hazardous waste, containing hazardous substances is described. The procedures used today for waste processing are presented. Main characteristics of this waste and the risks it presents for the environment and health of people, are shown. The quantities and kinds of hazardous waste containing hazardous substances and arising from production in Slovenia and the procedures for its processing, available with us, are described. Some concrete examples of unadequate waste management and the consequences of such management both in Slovenia and elsewhere are also illustrated. The proposition of waste management in health services as an example of waste management in a health institution is presented and the proposition for the establishing of a systemicly organized waste management of this kind in Slovenian region as a preventive factor for the protection of patients, health personnel and environment is presented. | |
