Abstract     A part of the results from the cross-sectional study will be presented, into which adult inhabitants of three geographically different rural areas of R Slovenia were included. Invited were all the permanent residents from the chosen areas. The total number of the examined inhabitants amounted to 2711. In the majority of individual group, homogenous as to ten-year age groups, sex and place of residence, the number of checked inhabitants ranged from 58 to 115 persons. With an inquiry form and aimed clinical check-up, the known risk factors for cardiovascular diseases (first of all smoking, obesity, alcohol consumption, salt intake, blood pressure, cholesterol) and morbidity due to observed diagnoses (first of all blood pressure, diabetes, angina pectoris, status after myocardial infarction, status after stroke, arterisclerosis of peripheral arteries) were established. The results were treated descriptively. High levels of risk factors and their wide spreading among population were found. The results for the age group of 35-44 years will be presented as it is homogenous enough and well persons owing to the best responsiviness in all the three groups. Some methodological problems regarding sample representativeness and standardized ascertaining of the variables values will be mentioned at the analysis of the results and attention will be called to mutual influence of several factors.
