Abstract		There are no reliable and precise data on number and characteristics of intravenous drug abusers in the region of Ljubljana, becase the data collection system hasn't been founded yet. According to our estimates and data, collected from health Care Centers of Ljubljana region in 1992 and 1994 the number of intravenous drug abusers is still increasing. The number of intravenous drug abusers who sought medical help has significantly increased in Health Care Center Ljubljana-Center where the center for methadone prescribing was established and other rehabilitation programmes are carried out as well. In order to adjust the programmes to the needs, appropriate systems for evaluating of results of therapeutic programmes should be introduced and experts should be trained how to treat intravenous drug abusers.
