Abstract		Monitoring of the use and consumption of drugs is above all important from the viewpoint of secondary and tertiary level of preventive medicine. It belongs to the complex of activities, which assure a safe drug consumption. The monitoring of the use and consumption of drugs is one of the activities, that enable the evaluation of: quality of treatment with drugs, expenses of treatment with drugs, expenses of treatment, importance of drugs adverse effects, adequacy of registered drugs choice, expedience of measures of administrative bodies, expedience of range of rights within health insurance, state of population supply with drugs, etc. There are still no databases for the evaluation of medical treatment quality and for the evaluation of the expenses for medical treatment. They could be used also as a starting-point for the planning of health educational programmes for a suitable medical treatment, drug consumption according to the kind of drug, expenses for medical treatment, changes in range of rights within health insurance, pharmaceutical network, etc. The setting up of the project "Elements for uniformity of health information system" gives an opportunity to design adequate databases on the base of statements and proposed solutions. This will enable the linking of databases for the planning and implementing of activities, necessary for the assurance of a safe drug consumption.
