Theoretical background: The sub special field of paediatric ostomy care nursing is very narrow, small and full of challenges. The aim of this article is to explore recent developments of the field in terms of evidence- -based practice. Methods: We conducted a systematic literature review and used the method of thematic analysis with the developments of codes and categories. We reviewed the CINAHL electronic database with key words in English, which were: new born, neonate, infant, baby, children, stoma, nursing, enterostomal nursing, ostomy care and ostomy nursing in different combinations. Results: We reviewed 5.387 references. The article represents the thematic analysis of the selected 8 articles about excretion stomas. The main findings were shaped into 65 codes and then united together in 7 categories. These are: the stoma care products; the family of the child with a stoma; new stoma care products; the role of the school in the care of the child with a stoma; the art of the paediatric ostomy nursing; knowledge- -based ostomy nursing and psycho-social needs of the child with a stoma. Discussion: We cannot say that the sub special field of paediatric ostomy care nursing is evidence-based, although there are some developments. There is evidence that the use of the silicone products in ostomy care is beneficial. Clinical Guidelines for Ostomy Care were developed in 2016, but they are not specific for the paediatric population. This is the opportunity for further development of the field.
