Abstract		Many researchers have studied the behaviour of one-year old children when separated and when reunited with their mothers in an alien environment. The children's behaviour was classified in three, and sometimes four, categories. The attachment theory classifies such behaviour according to the sense of security developed by the child in its relationship with the mother during the first year of life. Nevertheless, a sensible question arises as to how much is the child's behaviour dependent on its temperament. Therefore, I present in the article a synthesis of results obtained by a number of researchers who recently studied both the influence of a child's temperament and its relationship with the mother on its behaviour in "an alien situation". I personally consider both factors important and interactive.
