Abstract     The disastrous earthquake occurring in Ljubljana on the 14th and 15th of april 1895 also widely echoed in Maribor news papers: Slovenski gospodar, the paper for information and entertainment, issued on thursdays, the suedsteirische post on wednesdays and saturdays, the Marburger zeitung on sundaus and thursday mornings. On the 18th of april 1895 Slovenski gospodar reported under the heading of temible earthquake the following information about the earthquake in Ljubljana: Ljubljana has never experienced a night as frightful as the one on easter sunday. It describes the events that followed after 11:17 a.m., the situation after the earthquake in the surroundings of Ljubljana, and as far as Vienna, Florence, Zadar, Croatia, Hungary and elsewhere people rushing outside, and the domage caused. Special attention is devoted to the help offered by the military forces and various organizations successfully providing food for the distressed population. At times it is also giving reports on the amounts of money contributed by the inhabitants of Maribor as well. The suedsteirische post report the earthquake much later together with the prof. dr. Suessa's explanation about the origin of the earthquake giving aslo a description of the destruction caused in the surroundings of the stricken town. The Marburger zeitung brought a detailed report of the situation after the earthquake in Ljubljana and its surroundings and devoted a great deal of attention to some extremely interesting theories regarding its origin. The report describes the work of the rescue teams form Vienna, the transfer of prisoners form Ljubljana to Maribor and Graz and portrays the experiences of the earthquake at teatro communale in Trieste. It also defines a theory about the earthquake supported by Rudolf Fald. The news paper expresses a great sympathy for the population and to addresses to readers for help to the victims.
