Abstract | | The great earthquake which striked the City of Zagreb on November 9th 1880., is presented in the paper. Although the City of Zagreb was striked several times in the 16th and 17th century, and minor earthquakes were recorded in the 19th century, the great earthquake in 1880. created ample consequences. Almost half of edifices in the City were considerably damaged, but only two inhabitants were killed and only few were wounded. After the earthquake, the urbanization substantiantly increased, inducing a new era of progress. The earthquake of 1880. was the breakpoint in the transformation and urbanization of the City of Zagreb, changing its image comparing it with the pre-earthquake period.
