Abstract     Acute haemorrhages to lower GIT represent a small portion of massive haemorrhages into the bowel and have a marked tendency to spontaneous cessation. However, they are a diagnostic problem compared to haemorrhages to upper GIT. Endoscopic, angiographic andscintigraphic tachniques are combined to obtain diagnosis. Non-surgical methods of stopping the bleeding are here less effective than in upper GIT; the reasons are discussed in the article. For this reason surgical treatment is still often essential in such cases.
