Abstract     Current organizational scheme of emergency medical system (EMS) in Slovenia can be estimated as hardly appropriate. There are remarkable organizational and qualitative differences among different regions of Slovenia. Even in areas with relatively well organized EMS there remain several things to be improved (e.g. same location for emergency ambulances and crews, organization of primary helicopter flights, etc). A relatively insufficent knowledge and skills regarding emergency medicine have been noticed after graduation in different profiles of medical proffession. To improve this situation, general practitioners (and perhaps others) will have to participate at a compulsory EMS course every three years. Financing the EMS is also a topic that requires urgent attention.
