Abstract     Introductory a classical case of an injured person with internal haemorrhage is presented. Early signs of hypovolemic shock are described with a short interpretation. Pathophysiological explanation is limited to haemorrhages after injuries. Shock is classified according to the loss of blood in four stages with a detailed description of classical signs (presented in Table) as taught at courses for advanced trauma life support (ATLS). The common causes and locations of internal haemorrhage are: haemothorax, intraabdominal and retroperitoneal haemorrage and tissue haemorrhage in bone fractures. Mechanisms of injury are stressed as important factor for the evaluation of patient's condition and prognosis. Some guidelines are given for the preclinical care of the injured person with internal haemorrhage emphasing a quick replacement of fluid. The role of analgesia is mentioned. Finally medical antishock trousers (MAST) are described. These trousers are inflated to stop the haemorrhage temporarily, a method not well known in Europe but a standard method in USA.
