Abstract     Although the percentage of cases of spinal trauma is low (3-5%), the role of the Paramedic mandates a significant amount of weight to the evaluation of the scene and initial presentation of the patient. When the number of possible fractures and the different mechanisms that can cause them are considered, along with the limited evaluation capabilities, the Paramedic's focus is to use the high index of suspicion and mechanism of injury as major tools to treat for possible spinal injuries.
