Abstract     Physical therapy can be very valuable to the MS patient. It should be initiated at an early stage of the disease and directed toward maintaining the higest functional level. The success of the rehabilitation program depends on the motivation of the patient and on the attend of the therapist as on the disease course. The rehabilitation approach of interdisciplinary team - managed comprehensive care should result in more efficient management of individuals with MS. To demonstrate the benefits of rehabilitation versus traditional intermittent acute care, we need carefully defined components. A team approach includes a neurologist, physiatrist, psychiatrist, nurse, social worker, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, recreation therapist and family. The physiotherapist helps managing spasticity, weakness, ataxia, fatigue, balance disorder, pain, etc. Education regarding the disease process and health promotion in incorporated into the treatment sessions. The physiotherapist provides consultion and supervision for these activities. The MS comprehensive care centre must coordinate care so that the patient's needs are satisfied by those most familiar with the ramifications of the disease. Pool therapy uses buoyancy of the water to help patients exercise more easily, walk and relax plastic muscles. Swimming also improves strength and edurance with recreational activities, fatigue can be an important factor and should be anticipated.
